Hedonism at its finest: INSTALLE-MOI brings together go-go dancers and indie musicians
Mark Ambrose HarrisLike murmurs of magma on the cusp of eruption, there’s a buzz around town about INSTALLE-MOI avec TOPS. Part concert, and part dance party, INSTALLE-MOI will be an exlixir for audiophiles, and the equivalent of sonic amphetamines for anyone who needs to shake it. Following the success of last year’s REMAKE-OUT, the collective genius of Radical Queer Semaine is back to host a fundraiser for STALLE, the performance art night of RQS.
Because the RQS event is a collaboration with Arbutus Records and OUT Productions, the stage will be swarming with personnel from Arbutus, a record label and artistic community based in Montreal. What began as a DIY loft space has become the home base of Grimes and TONSTARTSSBANDHT. The headliners of INSTALLE-MOI are TOPS, an Arbutus four-piece made up of folks from other acts such as Pat Jordache and Silly Kissers, who all met at Lab Synthèse. TOPS’ David Carriere will join label mate Agor (of the dreamy electro-duo Blue Hawaii) in instigating chaos on the dance floor.
Aside from a live performance courtesy of electro songstress Mozart’s Sister, there will be some serious DJ power. Alongside DJ Like the Wolf and DJ Lynne T will be DJ Wheelie Houdini, aka Patti Schmidt of the renowned and dearly loved CBC Radio program Brave New Waves. If Schmidt’s Soundcloud party jams are any indication, her set promises to be riotous. With some go-go dancers thrown into the mix, what better reason do you need to brush off the drudgery of winter hibernation?
