Active since 2000, Art Matters is a 3-week long festival aimed at enabling Concordia’s undergraduates to showcase their work in professional venues.
Things get started on February 27th with a good, not-so-old-fashioned kick off party in the empty pool at Bain Mathieu (2915, rue Ontario E.), with bands Demon’s Claw and Red Mass playing in the deep end. On March 1st, Art Matters will once again be taking over the Belgo Building (372 St-Catherine W.) to present, among other things, a factory-themed collaboration with Studio 303 and a special presentation at Les Territoires courtesy of Bridget Moser.
For this year’s edition, the festival has taken extra measures to reach out to the university’s other medias and will also be presenting dance, film and music performances.
Discussion panels featuring prominent members of the city’s art community (including the Sanchez Brothers and curators from the Musée d’Art Contemporain) are planned throughout the month of February. (Marilis Cardinal)
