The Sparrow took over what used to be the upscale and sleek-looking Mile End Bar. With its homey vibe, it already feels more apropos than the previous occupant’s lower-Saint-Laurent brand of velvet rope clubbing. The street level is now eatery by day, bar by night, with late-night snacks served at the peak of intoxication. Cocktails are a-plenty, and yummy brunches and lunches are already drawing in an eclectic clientele of neighbouring artists, young professionals and requisite hipsters.
Upstairs will occasionally serve as a venue for bands, but don’t expect a full-fledged dance floor. At the time of print, décor is still fairly patch-worky highlights so far are the warm wood floors, exposed red brick wall and bird-worshipping by way of stained glass and wallpaper. Cuisine is tasty, but the waitress did concede a nice cold beer would be mighty delicious with my thyme and garlic mussels
