Memorsion: a contemporary take on urban structures

Whether you’re a full-blown audiophile or someone who’s just turned on by all things aesthetically pleasing, Manuel Chantre combines musical and visual elements in his new exhibit Memorsion, on display from June 3rd to 21st at Eastern Bloc. Boasting an extensive background in fields ranging from sound design to new media, Chantre focuses his multi-faceted talents on creating an audio-video project revolving around the theme of unique urban environments.

Memorsion is made up of twenty cloth canvases where video fragments portray a refreshing twist on typical cultural structures, concrete spaces, tunnels and walls. But that’s just the aesthetic part. Chantre sets the stunning urban visuals to a chilling and emotive soundtrack. As audience members move through the installation, the video and audio content changes and creates a different experience for the viewer with each visit.

No stranger to the world of art and new media, Manuel Chantre founded the audiovisual Popcore Collective in Montreal back in 2006 in collaboration with the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) and performs musically as part of the local 8bit scene under the alias Taxi Nouveau. Drawing from a past involving dozens of personal projects in film, animation, architecture and production, Chantre creates an exhibit that fuses modern art, cultural symbolism and music together seamlessly.
