Critiques CD: Flying Lotus | Cosmogramma

If possible, even more mind melting and soul bending than FlyLo’s previous releases, Cosmogramma is indeed a message from outer space… deep space, in the neighbourhood of Sun Ra. This is transcendental music – free jazz, classical music and blips and bleeps weave in and out of each other, informing, deforming and reforming to spin out into pure bliss. Everything is fodder for Flying Lotus, who seems to effortlessly synthesize music, snatched from time and space, into something sublime. Glitchy, romantic, weird and geeky, this album is pure genius, blending the most human elements and sounds with the most technological to make sweet, sweet music.

Critiques CD: Gold Panda | You EP

Having taken the spotlight from the wolf, the bear has now become the coolest animal to inspire band or artist names: Polar Bear, Grizzly Bear, and now Gold Panda. Starting to see a new trend here… Irrelevant remarks aside, this EP – essentially the single “You” remixed by the likes of a bunch of different tweekers (Osborne, Seams, Minotaur Shock, and Dam Mantle) – is the latest step up in the musical moves made by the man behind the panda. The vocal chops in the original single are the highlights of this EP. June 18th at Sala Rossa.
