The Vaselines: Only Time Will Heal Old Wounds

The story of The Vaselines reads like a modern day tale of loss and redemption, of lights turned off and then re-lit in the name of music and art.

Their beginnings can be traced back to 1986 in the midst of a fertile Glasgow indie scene, but their flame would soon fizzle, a mere three years later as happenstance would have it, the same week their only studio album, the mesmerizing Dum Dum, saw the light of day.

In the two decades since, the band’s myth was fortified by such über-fans as Kurt Cobain as well as Sub Pop Records, who released a couple of definitive retrospectives. Cut to now. Following a 2008 reunion for SP’s twentieth anniversary, the duo of Frances McKee and Eugene Kelly have returned with album two, the sly and witty Sex With an X, a triumphant pop and rock, boy-meets-girl-again effort.
