Critiques CD: Various | Sixteen F**king Years of G-Stone Recordings

Viennese downtempo heavyweights Kruder & Dorfmeister release this mega compilation consisting of “13 fucking new tracks and 12 fucking classics” culled from their label’s history. The set makes for a most eclectic and satisfying listen. There’s the infectious soul of Stereotyp’s “Keepin’ Me,” the trip-hop vibes and sax flourishes on Urb’s “So Weit,” the shimmery island grooves and dubby rhythms of Makossa & Megablast’s “Rip it up.” Sure, the frequency range isn’t much greater than a Café del Mar package, but who cares when the sampled vocals and smooth beats are this consistent. Kruder & Dorfmeister play Metropolis October 13th.
