Critiques CD: Eskmo | Eskmo

This San Franciscan caught the eye of Amon Tobin, FlyLo and a bunch of avant-hop West Coast cats with his Hypercolor EP, a sinfully sexy mishmash of bass, bleeps and warbles. Here, he explores the inner recesses of glitch, dubstep and hip-hop. If every track could sound like luscious lead single “Cloudlight” – full of ethereal textures, melancholy syncopation and ambient undercurrents, we’d be going bananas right about now. But Eskmo’s complete disregard for structure sometimes takes him on pretty dull tangents (“Become Matter Soon, For You”). Still, he’s a breath of fresh glitch-hop air, taking electronic miscellany in bold new directions.
