An Italo-Belgian duo-turned-solo project, the debut LP from these first-rate cosmic disco remixers leaves me confounded. Blame it on lone producer Vito De Luca’s kitchen sink production style. You’ve got Aeroplane’s alternately languorous and soaring disco jams (the euphoric, reggae-laced “We Can’t Fly”), but then De Luca throws in forgettable bleep-spotted country and heaps of MOR ‘70s rock. Heck, he even calls on indie act Au Revoir Simone to cap things off with a wimpy little ballad. Note to De Luca: go nuts on Moroder-grade vocoders and gospel choirs, but refrain from all AM rock indulgences, for God’s sake.
