Critiques CD: Ernesto Ferreyra | Paraiso de las Tortugas

Ferreyra’s minimal techno is deeply warm and languid. Neither lazy nor particularly busy, its spaciousness is laced with quirky, intimate details. Paraiso ultimately owes as much to house as to techno; the liquid, consistent groove pulsing throughout with a melodic keyboard line here, a two-step there, breaking and augmenting the rhythms. Ferreyra takes a detour on the downtempo, reflective “Acequia (Nos Salvamos),” with its haunting horns and ghostly voices that alternately hide and emerge from the almost trip-hop track. There’s tasty experimental meat on the lovely bones of this beautiful body music.
