With record number five, Denver world chamber band DeVotchKa sadly tread much of the same musical ground they’ve traveled before on previous albums. Working again with producer Craig Schumacher (Calexico, Neko Case) at his Arizona desert retreat, emotion and romance once again rule the day and night, seeping out of every horn and string pattern. The quartet of multi-instrumentalists rehash much of what we know, an international mash-up of sounds from here (lite pop-rock) and there (Tex-Mex mariachi, romany beats, old world waltzes), under the ever-soaring vocals of Nick Urata. March 29th at Le National.
