Critiques CD: Jurgen Paape | Kompilation

Kompilation gathers together a career’s worth of releases from non-performing Kompakt co-founder (and keeper of the record store) Jurgen Paape. Paape’s a master of sunny German techno that’s upbeat and filled with simple pop goodness – spun sugar for the dancefloor like “We Love” – as well as squidgy irresistible dancefloor tracks. Finely crafted, teutonic in their efficiency (and humour) yet poetic in their swing, Paape’s tracks are like crate-digging through Kompakt’s aesthetic history as well as his own as a producer. The man has an ear for pretty electronic noises, as well as compulsively pulsing dancefloor rhythms, which is why he’s the boss.
