Blood Ballet Cabaret: the burlesque troupe invites you to a « Children’s show for adults »
Morgan SteikerSpending an evening with the Blood Ballet Cabaret troupe is a memorable experience, to say the least. At any given time, you’ll come face to face with a spectacular contortionist, fire-hooping daredevils and a multitude of sensual burlesque dancers boiling with erotic energy. Miss Bloody Mary Anne, the salacious founder and cornerstone act, leads a family of dysfunctional yet lovable performers dedicated to pushing the boundaries both on and off the stage.
As a variety performance in essence, the BBC makes its audience travel through time and space with simple yet well-elaborated concept shows like the recent Oscars special, which covered film classics, or the Sci-Fi show and its kinky interstellar stories. With the help of her friends – performers like Fuhrious Nina, Petite Pandora and others – Miss Bloody Mary Anne develops each show with a narrative structure at its core.
“My crew has soul and they believe in the show as much as the audience does”, she explains. “We’re more than just feathers and fake lashes, we’re a unified concept. It’s about telling a story and bringing it all together in an interactive and clever manner.” Examining the crowd, you’ll notice a departure from the typical burlesque audience. Young and old, male and female, gay and straight, all disparities disappear once the lights go dim and the show begins. “We want to turn you on, and not just sensually speaking,” the charming founder points out. “We want to send shivers down your spine. But most of all, we want you to feel like you became a part of our story”.
