‘Charm, Strange’ at Armatta Gallery: Andreanne Michon’s stills explore subject and place
Isadora Melluzzoli
Freshly graduated from Concordia University with a major in photography, Andréanne Michon’s talent began to pay off even before she had finished school. While she has participated in several group exhibitions such as the Biennale internationale de l’image de Nancy (2007) and the McCord Museum’s Inspirations public installation (2008), this is the young artist’s debut going solo at the Armatta Gallery.
Entitled Charm, Strange, this collection of visuals is Michon’s exploration of the momentary illusion of a materialized place and subject that we perceive through digitalized images. In a series of diptychs and triptychs that will be juxtaposed with the text “O” by Chantel Neveu, the photographer attempts to unveil the fictional nature behind photographic manipulation. Offering a minimalist approach to portraiture and landscape, Michon encourages spectators to bring forth their own interpretations of how an unknown subject may be associated to the environment that surrounds it.
