Wolves in the Throne Room are rewriting the rules of the game

The brothers Weaver – Aaron and Nathan – are at the core of metal greats Wolves in the Throne Room, a band who over the course of their discography of four records in the last five years has redefined the death genre they march to.

From their earliest beginnings in the wilds of Olympia, Washington, the Weavers have forged their own unique living and musical paths, moving their base of operations onto an organic farm compound (nickname Calliope) where they practice an everyday person’s occult meets environment meets artistic lifestyle, all the while blasting a hole through the roof of heavy music by adding complex depths of ambient, pop, and electronics to their junk trunk.

“I’m fine with being a metal band; we love metal and take it really seriously.  We have a metal attitude and aesthetic, but I think we push it much farther out than most bands – maybe to the point that it is no longer metal,” says Aaron Weaver.

Their latest album, the awe-inspiring and sonically challenging Celestial Lineage – brought to life once again by key collaborators in studio and on stage for this fall’s North American tour of non-traditional concert venues – completes a trilogy of records that have elevated WITTR to god-like status in the eyes and ears of many.

Explains Weaver of the new songs: “I want to go deeper in the direction of chaos pulsing, astral blur, dust and moss. The new record is really an ambient album recorded over a metal record.” Let the pummeling begin.
