Critiques CD: The Rapture | In the Grace of Your Love

These guys are now down to threemembers, back with original label DFA and their first album in 5 years. Punk influences are sparsely felt here, as the bulk of In the Grace is dance-ready material. Singer Luke Jenner’s yelping vocals remain Rapture’s secret ingredient (although that’s also been toned down), and works best on tracks like the opener, the synthy arena-rock blast “Sail Away.” The irresistible keyboard-led grooves and bluesy vocals on “How Deep is Your Love” make up for many utterly forgettable songs, as well as Jenner’s over-reliance on often uncomfortably emo lyrics.
