Hip-hop supergroup Deltron 3030 preview their new album at Jazzfest

There are certain prerequisites for being a supergroup. Deltron 3030 checks most of the boxes.

Big names? Check. Dan the Automator, Del the Funky Homosapien and Kid Koala’s dues are paid in full, plus they were major contributors to perhaps the most notorious hip-hop  supergroup ever, Gorillaz.

Concept album? Check. Del’s alter ego Deltron Zero battles the big evil corporations of the universe on their self-titled 2000 debut.

Mad live performances? Check. For the recent premier of their second album, a sixteen-piece orchestra joined Deltron 3030 onstage. Faded stars looking to revive their dimming careers by grabbing the spotlight by virtue of their combined star power? Hold that check!

Deltron 3030 may be a hip-hop  supergroup but they’re more like a meeting of evil geniuses (well, maybe not so evil…) launching a mission to inner space than a gaggle of rock stars flaming out as they enter the atmosphere.

Even though Dan, Del and Koala started recording their second album, Deltron Event II, in 2006, it’s taken 6 years for these busy humanoids to find the time between their other projects and touring to finish it up.

Finally, the spaceship has landed and Deltron have breached the time space continuum with their epic 12-year journey from there to here and now. So, what to expect when the pod bay doors open and it all goes live? Dan conducting a choir, strings, horns and a conventional band, Kid Koala on turntables and Del on the mic being a funky homosapien.

Check it now because it might be another dozen before they touch down again.
