Move Over Summer, Autumn is Here With All it’s Mighty Live Music!

September, October, and November approach like a speeding bullet, moving way too fast towards us, signalling the end of an all-too-brief summer-of-love vibe that permeates Montreal every June, July, and August. One of the few facts we can rest our bronzed and depressed heads on is a glut of bonzo concerts, normally tuned in to the wave of new releases that permeate the planet. Fall in Montreal signals live music that touches on all music nerves.

Kicking things off this week are highly anticipated concerts going head-to-head. September 4^th sees local artistes Esmerine launching their brilliant new record «Dalmak» at La Sala Rossa, while down the street at SAT, Dirty Beaches return to their once home in support of their jaw-dropping two disc set «Drifters/Love Is The Devil». Thurston Moore brings his «Chelsea Light Moving train» to town for the first time September 16^th, the same night Ernest Greene debuts his «Washed Out project» at Corona and fiery rock goddess Scout Niblett presents songs from her new album «It’s Up to Emma» at Casa del Popolo.

Black Joe Lewis will instruct us September 18^th at Sala with his new Electric Slave. On September 24^th Gothic Americana song-man Richard Buckner pays a rare visit to Casa. Pop Montreal lands September 25^th. Please check out Shuggie Otis, Diana, & Majical Cloudz.

October 7thsees rock and roll bad boy Hanni El Khatib give it in support of his new platter «Head in the Dirt» at Sala, where AroaRa launch «In The Pines» October 16^th. Cutesy electro trio Au Revoir Simone return October 19^th at Le Belmont, Disappears bring their minimal angularity to Il Motore October 24^th, and true Montreal madman King Khan limps back home October 27^th at La Tulipe with a new record in tow – «Idle No More».

Legendary weirdos Sparks land November 1^st at le National, and finally on November 5^th sad boy Lou Barlow shows off Sebadoh’s excellent new record «Defend Yourself» at il Motore.
