Li’l Andy While The Engines Burn

Li’l Andy
While The Engines Burn
Self Release
4.4/5

Montreal’s Li’l Andy ain’t so little. Sure, he stands tall at 6 plus feet, but his greatest heights are achieved in his songs, where words and music collide with the gracefulness of a two-step ballet dancer. While The Engines Burn is record number four for Li’l Andy – to this point a crowning achievement in an already glowing discography (sadly under-valued in parts other than ici though!!) – but the first where he’s teamed with a producer, in this case the great multi-instrumentalist Warren C. Spicer from Plants & Animals. Andy marches to many beats of his past i.e. a steaming bowl of folk and country topped with a hot sauce of blues and rock, but to the table he brings a further exploration of things past, present and future in the forms of Cabaret waltzes, instrumental dirges, and Chamberesque pop. Simply put, this is great.

In concert at Sala Rossa – 4848 Saint-Laurent
