Critiques CD: Jahcoozi | Barefoot Wanderer

Apart from having perhaps the best Jah derived name ever, Berlin’s Jahcoozi can step with the best of the new breed of dubsters. Fronted by Sri Lankan/British MC Sasha Perera (whose fierceness live invokes a young Grace Jones) and guest MCs, Jahcoozi wander out into the vast territory of abstract dub where hip-hop, reggae, dub and trip-hop, with a touch of electro and pop, collide to create acts like Massive Attack. But this massive’s mash-up is purely their own even if it incites comparisons – heavy on the soul, Barefoot Wanderer feels entirely organic and coherent.
