Critiques CD: Bjørn Torske | Kokning

Norwegian oddball (and genre innovator and mutilator) started cutting a rug and pulling it out from under dance music in the late ‘90s, reassembling genres to resemble something entirely different. Kokning, which explores ethereal territory first touched on in 2007’s Feil Knapp, is generally more appropriate for quiet tripping than dancing. With forays into tribal lands (particularly on Langt Fra Afrika and Bergensere), Torske hasn’t abandoned the dancefloor completely, he’s just relocated it in strange, psychedelic lands where juju rules. A heady, infectious, if uneven, offering of weirdness for our lonely planet.
