Critiques CD: Acid Washed | Acid Washed

After striking gold with Sébastien Tellier and Turzi’s latest releases, Parisian label Record Makers tries to ride that perfect wave just a little longer with its latest, the self-titled debut LP by mysterious French disco duo Acid Washed. This promising, if uneven record gobbles up generous scoops of Moroder-style italo disco and late nineties French house. And like the latter genre’s undisputed kings (Daft Punk, silly!), Richard D’Alpert and Andrew Claristidge stay in the shadows and let the music speak for itself. Some of their experiments with sparkling synths (“The Rain”) and atmospheric vocal collabos (“Snows Melt”) really fizzle. Others, like the hypnotic disco gem “General Motors, Detroit, America”, confirm their talent shouldn’t be overlooked.
