Critiques CD: Röyksopp | Senior

The Norwegian electronic duo follow up their party-oriented Junior with the more mature and adventurous (and aptly titled) Senior. An atmospheric gem that’s entirely instrumental and perfectly suited for autumn listening, it recalls Röyksopp’s early days with Melody AM. The beauty of this 9-track album lies in little details: subtle drum lines, gentle guitar strumming and sparse melodies. Subdued distortion and outer space chords collide on the sensitive “The Alcoholic,” while euphoric synths and glitchy goodness are put to good use on the trance-like piece de résistance, “The Drug.” An epic feat that grows on you with every listen.
