Critiques CD: Mister Heavenly | Out of Love

Nick Thorburn (Islands, The Unicorns) has teamed up with Modest Mouse’s Joe Plummer and Ryan Kattner of Man Man to form a would-be indie rock supergroup. Their debut is a showcase of a contrived genre of their own invention, loathsomely called “doom-wop,” predictably a crossing of doo-wop pop with a harder rock edge. Does Mister Heavenly live up to the inevitable expectations of a so-called supergroup? Maybe, if you’re an Islands fan with the stomach for one of pop music’s most hackneyed eras. Did I mention there’s a song called “Diddy Eyes”?
